High School Geology Workshop 2012

As part of the GeoQuiz 2012 with the theme Strengthening Student Involvement in Widening Perspectives in Geology, the U.P. Geological Society held the High School Geology Workshop, an event spear-headed by the Secretariat Committee, last October 13, 2012.

The High School Geology Workshop is an event that delivers geology-based lectures and activities which serve as supplementary lessons to the earth science knowledge of the students. In connection with this, the organization aims to institute the students’ interest in geology and hopefully choose it as a career for the advancement of geology in the Philippines.

This year, in order to make the workshop as interactive and efficient as possible, several stations encompassing major geology topics were prepared in such a way that they facilitate an interactive and fun learning experience for the students. The stations includes; Volcano Station, Rock Cycle Station, Rocks and Minerals Station, Field Methods and Equipment Station, and other geology stations. Each station was operated by the members to teach and monitor the hands-on learning experience of the students.

In the end, the organization handed geology-themed souvenirs such as pet rocks and magnetite sand as a remuneration to mark and signify the experience and knowledge imparted to the students through the High School Geology workshop. #
